Welcome to Our First Newsletter!
Welcome to the beginning of a new venture, a new kind community, or a *New Shul of Jewish Thought.*
As we all know, the Jewish community is experiencing tremendous change, which in turn is having a significant impact on what it means to be Jewish, for all of us. If you want to learn more about what it means to be Jewish, then the New Shul would be a wonderful place of learning in a safe and supportive way.
Our thought is to begin at the beginning, with the first section of the Torah, ‘Bereshit’ or simply, ‘In the Beginning.’ As we expand and grow, we plan to explore the world of Mitzvah and what it means to do a Mitzvah as both a positive and transformative action.
We will learn what it means to pray for good health, for ourselves and for others. We will explore ‘Hesed’ or ‘kindness’ as a way to express care or even as a way to communicate. We’ll also explore prayers, blessings, and holidays – all with an eye towards their relevance to us, in modern life.
We plan to meet in people’s homes, in cafes and in many warm and intimate venues, all of which will be determined in the coming months. We will gladly assist in making arrangements for any and all distance learners to plug into open sessions and share in the discussion.
We are currently in the process of setting up a planning meeting for all who are interested, for both young and old alike. Stay tuned for the date and time and please let us know if you would be interested in either attending or hosting a study session.
On behalf of this exciting new venture, we warmly welcome everyone with an open heart and hope that you will consider joining with us as we continue down this road of learning, of blessing and of care for one another.
Wishing everyone a Good Year, a Shana Tovah and
a Gmar Chatimah Tovah,
The New Shul Leadership Committee
